The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office says that on Sunday, October 27, 2013, the Monticello Fire Department responded to a logging equipment fire.
The Fire Department was called out to Stewart Timber Incorporated located in Carson, Mississippi. Firefighters got the call around 12:45pm, Sunday afternoon. When they arrived on the scene, they found one piece of equipment completely burned, another piece was heavily burned and two others were vandalized. The burned equipment included a skidder and a cutter. The vandalized equipment was a dozer and a loader. All of the equipment is used for logging and is valued at a total of close to a million dollars.
Anthony Stewart, owner of Stewart Timber Company, is offering a $10,000 reward for any information that can lead to the arrest or conviction of the culprits behind the crimes.
The Sheriff's Office believes the damage was done between 10am and Noon on Sunday. They are asking people if they saw anyone entering or exiting the property, located a half mile north of Highway 84 on ferguson Mill Road, to call the Sheriff's Office or contact Capt. Ray Smith at 601.587.2961.
