2nd person dies from injuries sustained in Attala County crash

Posted: Updated:

New information about a deadly crash last weekend in Attala County, and the news keeps getting worse for one family.

The Attala County Coroner tells us a second person has died from injuries sustained in that accident.

Coroner Sam Bell says 33-year-old Chassie Holifield died Friday night at UMC. An autopsy will determine her cause of death.

Holifield's 16-year-old step-daughter Erica Holifield also died in the accident. A 10-year-old and three-month-old were also in that car at the time of the crash.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol says 30-year-old Nickholas Jackson refused to stop at a checkpoint, sped away and later slammed into Holifield's car. He's charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, felony fleeing, disregard for a traffic device, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.

He is not charged in either death, however investigators say more charges could be added.
