9 On Your Side joins in the fight for Alzheimer's Awareness

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. -

November is National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness month. It’s a disease that affects more than 5 million people a year.

Hundreds of people joined Jeff Varner and the “9 on your side” team to help raise awareness by hitting the streets at the annual Alzheimer’s walk in Greenville.

“That’s what this walk is really all about is raising awareness and helping us raise funds to help us provide services in the local communities,” said Alice Watkins, Alzheimer’s NC.

9 On Your Side’s Jeff Varner served as MC for the event.

The walk serves as a support outlet for family members and caregivers of people with the disease.

"You have a wonderful large support group across Greenville, across eastern North Carolina, and across the state that are here to make a difference. We are going to go after this disease and we are going to conquer this thing,” said Greenville Mayor Allen Thomas.
