UPDATE: 2 people killed in Roanoke County accident

ROANOKE COUNTY, VA -

4:30 p.m.

Police have released the names of the victims of this morning's crash.

18-year-old Danial Buckner and 20-year-old Jefferson Elliot were pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.

The juvenile driver was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he is currently in critical condition.

Police say the victims were not wearing seatbelts.

Another juvenile passenger did not require medical treatment.

Speed is believed to be the causing factor, and it is undetermined whether or not drugs or alcohol were involved.

The accident continues to be under investigation.

8:18 a.m.

According to a release from Roanoke County Police, crews responded to a single vehicle accident at 4:38 a.m.

When police arrived the car was overturned with four people inside.

Two people were killed and a third is in critical condition.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.

Appalachian Power's website is now reporting 134 customers in Roanoke City and 303 customers in Roanoke County are without power due to the crash.

7:10 a.m.

We've learned more information about the accident on Merriman Road in Roanoke County.

Four people in all were involved in the accident.

WSLS 10's Jade Hanson is reporting that two people were killed.

According to Appalachian Power's website, 702 customers are without power due to the accident.

We'll bring you more updates as they become available.

A Roanoke County traffic alert to tell you about this morning. 

There is an accident in 5900 block of Merriman Road. 

We're told it happened around 4:45 a.m. The road is closed at this time.

We're told there are power outages in the area.

Fire and EMS are on the scene.
