Double Homicide in Pike County

The Summit police department is investigating their first homicides of the year.

Summit police were called around 7:00 last night to a house on Peters street.

Authorities say 30-year-old Christie Wells was found shot to death.

They tell us 39-year-old Tomecka Williams was also shot and taken to a hospital where she died.

Summit Police Chief Kenny Cotton tells us the two women were shot with a 12-gauge shotgun.

They've arrested 36-year old Corey Cowart in connection with the deaths.

Neighbors tell us Cowart knew both women.

The summit community is in shock.

"It's just devastating. No one knows what really went on, but it's just sad." says Portia Holmes, Neighbor

"I assure you that we're going to push for the highest possible penalty available." says Chief Kenny Cotton with the Summit Police Department

Cowart has been charged with two counts of first degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
