Law enforcement to host forum on meth, gangs, and Internet scams

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -

Wednesday night folks in Jacksonville will learn how protect their communities against three big problems facing the city: meth, gangs, and Internet scams.

It's all part of the Jacksonville-Onslow Chamber of Commerce's forum called "Today's Threats to Society."

It's from 5:30 to 7 PM at Jacksonville City Hall on Wednesday.

The Onslow County Sheriff's Office will give a presentation on meth, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service will present on gangs, and the Jacksonville Police Department will do a presentation on Internet scams.

Jacksonville's deputy police chief says the forum is all about building a partnership with the community.

"Anytime you have knowledge, you have power. So if you arm yourself with that knowledge, then you're better able to avoid being a victim of crime, sometimes, and also if you have that knowledge, you can better help the police department which in turn better serves your community," said Deputy Chief Patrick Traitor of the Jacksonville Police Department.

The forum will also air on Jacksonville's government access channel, G10, said Jacksonville police spokesperson Beth Purcell.
