Cold temperatures push homeless to shelter

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - Possible record low temperatures mean homeless shelters are filling up.

The Greenville Community Shelter can house up to 78 people and staff expect it to be near capacity.

For some of the city’s homeless, it's their only option.

"We have no place to go, most of us are less fortunate,” one told 9 On Your Side. “Some have vehicles, some don't. And it's pretty hard to find a job in this town."

"It means a lot to me because I ain't got nowhere to go and it keeps me out of the cold and I appreciate a place to come," another said.

No matter how many people show up, the shelter says it will not turn anyone away.

The non-profit also has a case worker on staff that helps people earn an education, land a job or find permanent housing.
