2 pedestrians hit by texting drunk driver in Zebulon

ZEBULON, N.C. -

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol confirmed two pedestrians were hit by a vehicle on an exit ramp of U.S. 64 Thursday evening.

Authorities said four people were outside of their vehicle on the ramp for exit 432, Lizard Lick Road, because a wheel came off their trailer.

A driver was texting while taking the exit ramp, served and hit two of the people who had just finished changing the tire, the Highway Patrol said.

The two injured victims were taken to WakeMed. They conditions are not known at this time.

Troopers administered a breathalyzer on the driver at the scene and determined he was under the influence, the Highway Patrol confirmed. 

The driver will be charged with texting while driving, troopers said. Other charges are pending.
