An update to a story we first brought you Friday morning--the Rankin County Sheriff now says 13 children were injured in a school bus crash.
Sheriff Bryan Bailey tells us his department was called to the 500 block of Cuttin Hoss Lane near Pelahatchie around 7:45 Friday morning. He tells us the bus crashed into a tree, and 13 students were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
In a statement, Rankin County School District Superintendent Dr. Lynn Weathersby said 35 students, kindergarten through 12th grade, were on the bus.
"The safety and well-being of everyone involved is our number one priority," said Dr. Weathersby. "We are thankful for everyone that helped on the scene of the accident."
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
