GREENVILLE, N.C. - On Saturday, Koinonia Christian Center Church gave away more than 1,100 coats and 800 shoes.

"That just  shows you the level of need in our community, and that's what are church strives to do, is be a community church.  To be some  place to say you know what Christ cares about you, you know whatever state you're in, whatever is going on he cares; and to use the blessings that he's given us to help our community," said KCC Bishop Rosie O'neal.

While this the first time the church has held the large of clothing giveaway, O'neal says they are thinking about trying to make is another part of their outreach.

" I think we'll just incorporate it. As God blesses us, you know you can't meet every need, but  we  do the very best that we can and as much as he blesses us with we intend to turn it out and bless the community," said O'neal.

The event didn't stop at the church. O'neal says they worked with Angel Cops and also gave away insulated jackets, blankets, and food to the homeless.
