Men armed with assault rifles target Pitt County convenience store

GREENVILLE, N.C. -

Pitt County deputies are looking for a group of men who held up several convenience store workers at gun point Thursday night.

It happened around 10pm last night at the Country Side store on Stantonsburg Rd. Pitt County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Christy Wallace says one man held the door open, while two other men armed with assault rifles ran into the store.

Wallace says three people were working in the store at the time and several customers were in the parking lot. By the time deputies arrived, Wallace says the customers had already left.

Evidently something scared the robbers away. Deputies say the men were only in the store for less than a minute. They left without taking anything.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (252) 758-7777.
