A state senator is arrested for DUI hours after hosting a community forum about crime in the capital city.
Jackson police say John Horhn was pulled over for a traffic violation just after 11:00 last night. They say he was on Beasley road.
Police say during that traffic stop--he was arrested for driving under the influence.
The patrolman noticed that Horhn appeared to be impaired.
The Jackson legislator was given a breathalyzer, which he failed.
Horhn was booked and then released.
Earlier in the evening, horn hosted a community forum, at the state capital for people concerned about crime in Jackson. Folks were able to express their frustration to local leaders.
Some believe Horhn's arrest undermines his message on fighting crime.
“You can’t really just go out and preach this and say this and then look what you doing,” said Damien Grant.
Brenda Scott heads union of state and local government workers which lobbies legislators like Horhn for support.
“We thank senator Horhn for his support…he made the choice to drink but it’s a charge and he will have his day in court," Scott said.
Senator Horhn has served in the legislature for 20 years.
We made several attempts to contact Horhn to hear what he has to say about the arrest. Our calls were not returned.
