4-year-old accidentally shoots, kills himself; Father charged

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Fayetteville Police have charged the father of a 4-year-old boy who accidentally shot himself with a handgun Saturday.

Police arrested 32-year-old Jeffery David Perez for Involuntary Manslaughter and Failure to secure a Firearm in connection with the death of his son, Killian Perez.

According to our sister station, WNCN, Fayetteville police responded to Stanford Court around 10:45 Saturday morning in reference to a child shot. Emergency responders pronounced 4-year-old Killian Perez dead at the scene.

Investigators say the boy got the loaded handgun of the top of a refrigerator.

Perez was processed at the Cumberland County Detention Center and received a $5,000 unsecured bond.

Police say he’s a soldier in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Bragg.
