ECU social work students host community day in Greenville neighborhood

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina University students are putting their classroom skills to the test

On Saturday, social work students held a community day for the East Meadowbrook Community.

Student, Joy Brown, says the class decided on the East Meadowbrook Community after two children were hit by cars.  This fall, Brown says students talked with residents to find out how they could help.  The answer was to hold a community day full of fun and safety education, called “Unity in the Community.”

ECU social work students, led by associate professor, Dr. Intae Yoon, teamed up with East Meadowbrook Community resident counsel, Brenda Coggins to pull off the community day.

Saturday’s community day treated kids to music, games, food, a Greenville Police safety presentation, and free toys and sports equipment. However, the event wasn’t just about the children in the community. Kids in the community also made and delivered plates of food to elderly living in the neighborhood.
