3-year-old in Elizabethton fighting rare disease

Posted: Updated:

An Elizabethton mother is wishing for one thing this Christmas- health for her three year old son, who has a very rare disease.

Dawson Cash Cole. 3,  was diagnosed in February with Langerhan's Cell Histiocytosis.

Dawson's mother, Sara Barnett, says he also has Diabetes Insipidous which is caused by the LCH.

A tumor is on Dawson's pituitary stalk, making it too dangerous for surgeons to cut out.

Sara says they are staying positive, despite a lot of unknown factors in his future.

"Prognosis is good, but it's just.. it's rare," she says, "so we don't have a clue, doctors have no clue right now, because of this new chemo, they've never used it."

Friends of the family have set up a fundraising site to help the family pay for travel expenses for Dawson's treatments: http://www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/dawson-s-journey-lch-langerhan-s-cell-histiocytosis/105925
