Duke campus honors Mandela's life with NC vigil

DURHAM, N.C. -

The worldwide memorials for former South African leader Nelson Mandela include a prayer vigil at Duke University's chapel in Durham.

Campus religious leaders on Tuesday will remember a man who Duke Chapel's dean the Rev. Luke Powery says helped bend the moral arc of the universe toward justice.

The Durham religious service comes on the same day that South Africa fills a 95,000-seat with local mourners and almost 100 foreign leaders including nearly all living American presidents. President Barack Obama is expecting to speak at Tuesday's service in Johannesburg.

Mandela died last week at the age of 95. He will be buried near his rural home on Sunday.
