Fire damage inside the First Baptist Church of Magee
First Baptist Church of Magee caught fire around 4 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to the Magee Volunteer Fire Department. Chief Lane Steele believes it was an electrical fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. We're told that the state fire marshal's office will investigate fire. It was contained to the church's business office, library and daycare area. Pastor Buddy Keyes says that most of the church's records were destroyed in the fire. The sanctuary still stands with smoke and water damage. Church services will now be moved to the Family Life Center across from the church. Pastor Keyes says he's counting his blessings. "We do have a building to worship in and we do have a place to go , no one was hurt and we just thank the Lords the he was this this," says Keyes. Longtime church member Linda Bennett isn't letting the fire get her down. "We'll pull together, make this thing happen and we'll all be stronger from it," says Bennett.
Church services continued Wednesday night, members gathered for a prayer meeting at the Family Life Center. "We can just be thankful for what we do have - when I got here this morning I was really devastated as far as what was happened as we stood out here," says Pastor Keyes.
