It's been more than a year-and-a-half since Barbara Raines and Robert Varnum were found shot-to-death inside their Hinds County home. No one was ever arrested for the killings, and Raines' family called News Channel 12 wanting an update on the investigation.
Hinds County Sheriff's Department officials say the case has recently been reopened. They say they think there is some connection between this double murder and a recent murder in the City of Vicksburg. We'll have more information on that possible connection as it becomes available.
Since their loved one was shot-to-death in March of 2012, Barbara Raines' family has tried to heal, but they say they can't knowing the killer is still on the streets.
"It was the very first time that Bobbi has not called me on my birthday," says Barbara's sister, Sheri McBride. Loved ones call Barbara 'Bobbi.'
Sheri McBride will never forget that birthday. The next day, she saw on the news her sister was murdered.
"It's learning how to go day-to-day and getting through the holidays," she says.
Christmas was always a special time. Bobbi's family still hangs her stocking and decorates her Christmas tree.
"My husband says the angel in the long dress right there reminds him of Bobbi, because she liked to wear long dresses," says Camille Doiron, Bobbi's mother. "Going to put this tree up the rest of our lives, and when we're gone, the kids will follow on with it."
Bobbi's mother and sister want answers. They want someone to come forward with information.
"We are begging you as a family to please help us," says McBride.
"And I think there's a mother out there somewhere that knows about this, and I know she's got children. She wouldn't want this to happen to her," says Doiron.
They admit Bobbi had her demons.
"We never would expect Bobbi to take any drugs or anything like that," says Doiron. "It was a real shock to us."
"Does that give anybody the right to kill her?" asks McBride. "To kill my sister?"
Somebody did kill Bobbi Raines. And authorities say that somebody is still out there.
"If they find the person, it'll be great, because he could never hurt another person," says Doiron.
"We've got to hang on to our hope and our faith that the Lord will help us through this," says McBride.
We'll provide updates on the investigation as they become available.
If you know anything about the shooting deaths of Barbara Raines and Robert Varnum, please call police.
