Florence Man Found Guilty Of Manslaughter, Gets 20 Years
England has been sentences to 20 years for running over Scott Ford in a Target parking lot.
Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith today announced Jaycob England, of Florence, Miss., was convicted by a Hinds County jury of Manslaughter for fatally running over Scott Ford of Orem, Utah, on July 22, 2011.
Jurors heard testimony that England, age 23, became incensed because his girlfriend had interacted with Ford, age 23, at the Electric Cowboy nightclub. A fight between the two broke out that ended in the north Jackson Target parking lot, where England used his girlfriend’s car to run over Ford.
England fled the scene with his girlfriend and another male. Ford died the next day of blunt force trauma to his head and trunk.
After hearing testimony from Ford’s family, Hinds County Senior Circuit Judge Tomie Green sentenced Ford to twenty years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, the maximum sentence under the law.
“Scott Ford’s family came all the way from their home in Utah to be at this trial,” said Smith. “As with all the other victims’ families we see, their anguish was heartbreaking.
“I do know, however, that justice for a lost loved one in a profound way offers some comfort. And for that reason I’m very proud of the Jackson Police Department and my prosecutors for winning this case.”
