Flowood, MS - For many, the holiday season is a time for joy and happiness.  But, for others, it can be a struggle to even put food on the table.

"I’m donating stuff animals,” comments Marty Douglass.

She says even the smallest gift can make a difference in someone's life.

"It’s good for my spirit.  And, knowing it's going to help a child's spirit makes it even better," expresses Douglass.

The items we're asking for are non-perishable food, warm clothes, blankets and toys.

"The need is growing greater," adds Capt. Ken Chapman of the Salvation Army.

He says the need for help goes beyond the holiday season.  Their efforts are year-round.

"When it gets below 25-degrees, we take out our canteen and feed people and give them coats and blankets and gloves.  So, it's going to be put to great use," continues Capt. Chapman.

They also save some of those stuffed animals to bring a smile to a child's face after a house fire or a tornado that rips through a neighborhood.

"This past year with the Hattiesburg disaster, these were wonderful for kids who just experienced a great deal of trauma," recalls Capt. Chapman.

The donation center is open until the end of the month, Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

For the rest of this week, you can also drop off your donations at the Colony Crossings Kroger in Madison.
