Sam McNair, a Duluth, GA high school student was found to be in violation of his school's sexual harassment policy when surveillance cameras caught footage of him hugging a teacher.
The actions made by McNair included placing his arms around the back and front of the female teacher and tucked his head behind her neck. The teacher reported the incident and included that McNair's cheeks and lips touched the back of her neck and cheek. She also says she gave McNair warnings that hugging teachers is inappropriate behavior.
According to WGCL's website, McNair says his actions were innocent, and he denies he sexually harassed or kissed his teacher.
Due to the sexual harassment violation, Sam McNair has been suspended and will not graduate from high school along with his class. Which according to McNair's mother, jeopardizes his college plans including scholarship opportunities.
According to the story from WGCL, a spokesperson for Gwinnet County Public Schools would not comment on McNair’s case specifically, but said in a statement that ”hearing officers consider witness testimony, a review of the known facts, and a student’s past disciplinary history … when determining consequences.”
McNair believes he should not be punished for a simple hug.
