Woman Charged With Murder In Connection To Body Found In Marion County

Dec. 20th 11:00am: A Marion County investigator assigned to the Sasha Stokes case says that Stokes' initial hearing was at 11am Thursday. Her bond was set at $1 Million. Investigators are still waiting on autopsy results.

Dec. 18th 1:27pm: Sasha Stokes has been arrested and charged with murder in connection to the body found in Marion County. Marion County Sheriff's Department says the infant's burned body was found in a large metal barrel on Arthur B Johnson Lane in Columbia, MS a little after 11am on Monday, December 17.

Dec. 18th update: According to Marion County Sheriff Berkley Hall, one person is in custody after a body is located in the Lampton Community. The remains appear to be those of an infant. The body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner for autopsy. We'll pass along more details as they become available.  

Dec. 17th :
We're covering a developing story out of Marion County this hour. Authorities tell us they are investigating after a body is discovered.
Right now, there are not many details confirmed, but what we have been told is that the body was found off Highway 13, not far from Columbia.
Additionally, investigators say it is possible the body is that of an unidentified infant. News Channel 12 spoke with the Marion County Sheriff's Department not long ago.

An official tells us that investigators are still on the scene in that area and that they are working to piece together exactly what happened.
Not only that, but we are told that officials from the state crime lab are also taking part in this case.
A crew from our sister-station in Hattiesburg, WHLT, is heading to the scene and we will bring you more details as soon they become available.
