KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) - A Tri-Cities marching band is sharpening its steps and practicing each tune in preparation for a performance before a national audience.

The Dobyns-Bennett High School Marching Band soon will leave Kingsport and head to Pasadena, California.

The D.B. Band received an invitation to march in the 125th Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year's Day.

Tuesday band members marched in a final run-through before the Christmas holiday break.

For performers and directors, an invitation to the Tournament of Roses Parade is just the latest in a series of high honors.

"My class is going to be the only class in the history of the nation that will have done the Inaugural Parade, the Macy's Parade and the Rose Parade, so I really think its so much of an honor to show what we've done over the years," said Sophia Baker, DBHS Drum Major.

The Dobyns-Bennett High School marching band will leave Tri-Cities Regional Airport on December 28th and fly straight to Los Angeles on two chartered jets, one of them a 747 jumbo jet.

After enjoying the parade and a bit of sightseeing, the D-B Band will return to the Tri-Cities on January 3rd.
