The Mississippi Highway Patrol launched their "Pay Attention or Pay a Fine" campaign in November starting in Oxford. Troopers took to metro highways Thursday targeting distracted, reckless and careless drivers.
Currently Mississippi doesn't have a texting and driving law or a distracted driving law, but there is a careless driving law in place. Troopers say they're not looking at what you're doing inside the car but what your car is doing on the outside. They're looking for swerving, speeding and failure to signal. Patrolmen were on started on I-20 Thursday, but they'll be across the metro looking for distracted drivers.
