A recent facebook post by Mississippi U.S. Congressman Alan Nunnelee is getting attention for all the wrong reasons.
Thursday, the Republican representative from North Mississippi posted an image on his congressional facebook page that shows he proudly supports Phil Robertson, the star of the popular cable TV show "Duck Dynasty."
Producers at A&E suspended Robertson this week following his comments about blacks and gays in a GQ magazine article.
"It's beneath the dignity of a congressman," state Democratic Party chairman Rickey Cole said of Nunnelee's facebook post.
Many in the metro, who are fans of the show, are weighing in on Nunnelee's controversial post.
Judy Casey said "I think politicians really ought to keep their mouth shut."
Wendy Hilliard, who watches the show, believes Nunnelee should have stayed out of the controversy.
"Because he represents all the people whether they are black, white, gays, lesbians or other," she said.
Cole, with the Democratic Party added, "there are some serious bread and butter issues before the U.S. Congress and I really think it should be below a member of congress' dignity to even discuss this entertainment TV show.”
A spokesman for Congressman Nunnelee said he was unavailable for comment.
