The following is a statement released by Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson about the shootings of two Tupelo Police officers on Monday:
"I want to promise everyone, as the Sheriff of Lee County, that everything possible that can be done, is being done to apprehend the person or persons responsible for the callous acts that were committed yesterday in Tupelo. I have been part of every meeting and watched multiple agencies follow every lead that has come forward. I am asking that everyone, most of all pray for this situation. Pray for the families that had love ones that were attacked. Pray for the men and women that have now gone without sleep for many hours that are working on this case. I also plead that if you saw anything or have any information that may assist in the solving of this case, to contact law enforcement. All opinions, or personal thoughts, about what and how this incident happened, or how it should be handled, serves no purpose. Thank you for all that has been done to help support us and again, I can only give you my word. WE will NOT quit until we find the person or persons responsible. The entire team and myself covet your prayers."
