Strangers send thousands of greeting cards to fulfill man’s Christmas wish

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK - In upstate New York, a man with Down syndrome was hit with a tidal wave of kindness when his mother reached out to social media to make his wish come true.  All 25-yr.-old Elliot Shirback asked his mom for this Christmas was cards- 100 to be exact.

Friends and family put the word out on Facebook last Wednesday, not expecting much. Within a day, his mom's post went viral and he was flooded with cards- a sure sign of Christmas spirit and the power of social media.

"It makes me happy inside of me,” said Shirback.  “It's like a gift, like somebody loves and cares about you."

By Christmas morning, Elliot had received more than 18,000 cards.
