Sgt. Kevin "Gale" Stauffer will be laid to rest today.
Sgt. Kevin "Gale" Stauffer was laid to rest today at the Tupelo Memorial Park.
Sgt. Stauffer was one of the police officers that responded to the South Gloster Street BancorpSouth robbery in Tupelo. Witness accounts say the bank robber shot Officer Stauffer and Officer Maher at point blank range.
At the time of the bank robbery, Officer Stauffer held the rank of corporal. As an honor, for his service to the City of Tupelo, Officer Stauffer was bestowed the rank of sergeant after his passing.
Sgt. Kevin Stauffer leaves behind a wife and two small children, ages 2 and 6.
Preceding Sgt. Stauffer's burial, funeral services were held at the First United Methodist Church in Tupelo.
Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant has signed Executive Order No. 1334 for all flags to be flown at half staff until sunset on December 27th, 2013 in memory of Sgt. Kevin Stauffer.
