On Friday, December 27th, 2013 at approximately 8:30 PM Waveland Police Officer Ben Bowden stopped a vehicle on Highway 90 near Hancock
Bank, in Waveland, for not having a license plate.   He was assisted by Waveland Officers Erik Castro and Chris Perez and later by Hancock County Sheriff's Deputies Isreal Neff and Ian Larson. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Angela Sullivan, 32, of Philadelphia, Mississippi.  The male passenger gave false information as to his identity but was eventually identified as Alton Morgan II, 39.  Mr. Morgan was found to be wanted out of Texas on a Grand Larceny charge.  Deputy Eric Loveless, a K9 deputy from the Hancock County Sheriff's Office, responded to the scene and his K9, Kira, made numerous alerts for the presence of narcotics.  A small amount of narcotics was found along with a large sum of cash.

While documenting the cash found during the stop, it was found that many of the $100 bills had the same serial number, indicating they were counterfeit.  It was also found that many of the $20 bills also shared a common serial number.  The original (real) $100 and $20 bills that the copies were made from were found, as well as the printer used to make the copies and other items used in the counterfeiting of currency.  The suspects had taken smaller denominations of currency and erased the ink, then reprinted the $100 over it, in an attempted to make the bills feel like real money, rather than printer paper, and to try to foil counterfeit detector pens.  A large amount of various goods, which appeared to have been obtained from numerous stores throughout Mississippi, were also found in the vehicle.

Alton Morgan II was arrested for Giving False Identifying Identifying Information as well as five counts of Possession of a Forged Bank Note and his bond set at $55,000 by Waveland Municipal Judge P.J. Mauffray.  He was then booked in to the Hancock County Jail for these charges as well as a hold for the charge out of Texas.

Angela Sullivan was arrested for several traffic offenses, including Driving with a Suspended Drivers License, no Vehicle Tag, and No Insurance, as well as 2 counts of Accessory Before the Fact for Possession of a Forged Bank Note.  She was given an $11,500 bond by Municipal Judge P.J. Mauffray.

It was found that the pair had used the counterfeit bills at numerous locations between Philadelphia, Mississippi, and Waveland, although it appeared they had not yet had a chance to use them anywhere in Waveland.  They appeared to be especially fond of using them at fireworks stands, where the lighting is not as good and there would be no video surveillance to record them.

The serial number displayed on the counterfeit $100 bills is KC34798840A. The serial number displayed on the counterfeit $20 bills is JH19389397B.

If you own a business, please be aware that these types of cases are becoming more and more common in our area.

Waveland Investigator David Buckley is the lead on the case, which is being investigated in conjunction with the US Secret Service.
