A new life starts fresh just in time for the new year. We caught up with one of the first babies to be born in Jackson!
Jasmine Allen was scheduled to give birth to her third child on Christmas, but the date came and passed, and before Allen knew it, doctors induced labor on New Year's Day.
"They were like: 'you're going to have a New Year's baby, not a New Year's Eve baby!' And he came." says Jasmine Allen, mother of Brayden Allen
Brayden Allen was born at 4:29 Wednesday morning, making him one of the first babies to be born in Jackson in 2014.
"I was thanking God. I was shouting. I was doing everything. I was glad he was here," says Allen
Allen tells us she was in labor for nine hours.
She says Brayden was born healthy, weighing seven pounds, seven ounces.
"I'm a soldier, I'm God's child, so me and Brayden made it through." says Allen.
The fact that Brayden was born on New Year's day is special to his family, but more special to his father, Kentreze Harris.
"I mean, really if he wasn't born on the first day of the year, I'd still feel the same way about him because he's my first," says Harris.
Brayden rounds out a trio of boys, joining his two older brothers ages four and five.
