Leal Poised To Take Over Hokies QB Job

Posted: Updated:

The outcome of the Sun Bowl frankly took a back seat after the Hokies starting quarterback Logan Thomas was knocked out of the game.  But now its that future quarterback situation--that has everyone intrigued. Backup quarterback Mark Leal was forced into action when Logan went down. His performance--which was going to be scrutinized in the spring--suddenly was front an center. Leal was 12 of 25 for 130 yards a pair of interceptions which cost Virginia Tech two scores. But he's only had 23 career passes in three seasons as Thomas's backup. Nonetheless Coach Beamer says he's the next man up to continue the Virginia tech quarterbacking legacy. Leal will be getting competition from former Christiansburg star Brendan Motley and a couple of incoming freshman stars..in Andrew Ford and Chris Durkin.
