A 16-year-old rolled his SUV into a Natchez Police car on Friday night after failing to stop for a DUI checkpoint, a Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesperson said.

Neither the officer nor the 16-year-old suffered serious injuries, District 9 MHP Trooper Rusty Boyd said.

MHP officers report the 16-year-old sped his Toyota 4Runner past their DUI checkpoint on Highway 555 near Old Country Club road.

A pursuit was called but lasted less than one minute. When the trooper entered his vehicle to follow the 4Runner had already rolled near George F. West Boulevard, Boyd said.

The vehicle had rolled into a Natchez Police Cruiser. The 16-year-old had minor injuries - bumps and bruises - and authorities note he was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The Natchez Police Officer was checked out for injuries but nothing serious was apparent, Boyd said.

Possible charges as well as the results of a blood alcohol test have not yet been released.
