By Perrise Thomas -
Record breaking temperatures are keeping local plumbers busy.
Many people are dealing with broken pipes and other damages related to the weather.
"Well, we didn't have water all night last night" says Kevin Heintzelman
He says his family came home to a broken water pipe on Monday.
"There was provably about an inch of water on the bathroom floor and about half our new carpet in the bedroom was destroyed." says Heintzelman
A local plumber went out to fix the problem.
Michael Hunt says his company has received more calls than normal.
"Numerous calls due to the cold weather and people not taking preventative maintenance." says Hunt
He says not taking those preventative measures can be costly.
"It can cause anything from minor damage to extensive damage going into your wall."
Heintzelman's water was turned off until work could be done. I
In the meantime, he decided to move his family out of the mess.
"I said no, we're going to go to a hotel. Just so we can have running water, brush our teeth and all that stuff."
Hunt is urging people to do their part in preventing situations like this from happening.
"Anything that's exposed to the elements, you should wrap it up and make sure nothing can get to it. No moisture, no wind, no air."
Kevin Heintzelman is hoping to have water soon.
"Say a little prayer that we can get our water back and life can go back to normal."
"We're just working dark and past dark until everybody's taken care of." adds Hunt
