Rolling Fork Mayor Indicted

By Ross Adams -
The mayor of Rolling Fork has been indicted on criminal charges that could force him out of office and send him to prison.
Yesterday the Sharkey County grand jury handed down two separate indictments, each containing two counts.
Today news channel 12 was the only station in the courtroom when Mayor Eldridge Walker was arraigned before a judge.
During the brief appearance in Warren county circuit court Walker pleaded not guilty tope the charges against him.
According to the indictment, Walker used his private company Walker construction to fraudulently obtain grant money from the federal home loan bank in Dallas.
Authorities say Walker claimed the funds would be used to rehabilitate homes in Rolling Fork. They say the money was not used for that purpose.
The case is being handled by the attorney general's office.
The judge set a $10,000 bond for Eldridge.
If convicted the mayor would have to step down from the position he was elected to last summer.
