LAUREL, Miss. - Two adults and one minor were arrested after Laurel Police say they were busted with drugs on Wednesday.
Zachary and Timothy Evans had their initial appearances in court today.
The two cousins are charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute while in possession of a firearm.
The judge set their bond at $25,000 each.
"The juvenile of course will be handled in juvenile court," said Sgt. Michael Reaves of Laurel Police.
He said LPD was conducting a surveillance detail at the Super 8 Motel on 16th Ave. after complaints about drug activity.
"This just happened to be where it happened," he said.
Reaves said they watched one of the suspects walk to a car with a handgun.
"We were able to get the vehicle stopped," he said.
Authorities found an undisclosed amount of cash, weapons and drugs.
"The marijuana was between $1,200 and $1,400 worth of street value and three handguns.
The serial number on one of the guns was scratched off.
"Which tells us that it wasn't meant for lawful purposes," Reaves said. "Drug deals and violence usually goes hand in hand."
Reaves said the suspects were most likely mid-level drug dealers, he had a message for any others in the area.
"We tell everyone there is no retirement program if you deal drugs, you end up in one of 2 places, a cemetery or in prison," Reaves said.
