Residents Hope Petition Forces Property Owner To Clean Up

Posted: Updated:

Trouble in the woods behind a South Jackson neighborhood has the community coming together for change.

Residents on Bienville drive say they're fed up with the mess in their backyards.

That mess is all on acres of private property.

They've decided to start a petition to hopefully force the property owner to clean it up.

Rats, rodents, deer are all in the back. Trash is supposedly all trashed out and it scares me."

Linda tells us she just recently moved to the area.

After speaking with neighbors and stepping into her backyard, she's concerned about what she sees.

"It scares me to know that snakes can even be that close to me an my family." says Linda

Marcus Robinson says people have moved out of the neighborhood because of the ongoing problems.

"People have had raccoons and stuff in their garages. Even in their houses, and that just scared them. They don't want to be in no environment like that." says Robinson

The community will take the petition to city council.

They hope that puts pressure on the property owner to make him clean it up.

"That's his responsibility as a property owner. He owns that property, I'm quite sure he pays taxes on it just like I do and I expect the same thing from him." says Martha, a neighbor

We tried to reach the property owner, no one answered.
