Authorities say 20-year-old Marquet West is believed to be responsible for a deadly shooting that happened around 3:30 this afternoon on Y Camp Road off Grand Gulf Road near Port Gibson.According to the Claiborne County Sheriff, 32-year-old Eric Hyder had just gotten off work.
"He was walking down Y Camp Road, probably less than 100-yards from his house," Sheriff Marvin Lucas tells News Channel 12.
Sheriff Lucas says West is Hyder's neighbor.After exchanging words, West drove home, got his gun, came back to where Hyder was, and shot him in the chest.
"I don't know why he shot him.All I know is Mr. Hyder is dead and Mr. West is our suspect," explains Sheriff Lucas.
Hyder wasn't walking alone.The Sheriff says there's an eyewitness.
"There was another young man with Mr. Hyder.He ran behind a tree and Mr. Hyder was shot," continues Sheriff Lucas.
Sheriff Lucas doesn't know what type of gun was used.He’s waiting on the results from the crime lab.
Sheriff Lucas says West will be officially charged with murder in the morning.
According to police records, West has been arrested for simple assault.
