A dog is now recovering after a dramatic river rescue. An animal control officer was patrolling a flooded creek in Atlanta’s Memorial Park during Saturday’s storms when something in the water caught his eye.
When he got closer he realized it was a dog stuck in the water and tied to a tree. The water was reaching the dog's neck and that's when the officer says he knew he needed to act quickly.
"Do I take the risk of calling the fire department and hopefully they can get through the wrecks, through the rain and all the traffic to get there,” said Anthony Defore, Fulton County Animal Control as he explains what he thought to himself. “Or, it was go in and know he was going to be okay."
The officer was able to hold the dog's collar up while he un-tied the rope and got the dog to safety. The pup was stuck for so long the collar actually caused him to bleed. But, he's expected to be okay.
