Casino Builders Dig Into Underground Concrete

Posted: Updated:
Construction workers digging holes for hotel pilings at the site where Silver Slipper Casino is building a new $18 million hotel have struck some thick, underground concrete slabs.

Casino general manager John Ferrucci tells WLOX-TV in Biloxi (http://bit.ly/1hD71l7 ) that everybody has a different theory on how it got there and what they were used for.

He says the slabs probably date back to the 1950s or earlier.

Heavy equipment has been brought in to break up the concrete and haul it away.

Officials say the plan is to start driving the pilings for the hotel Monday. Work crews will chip away at the concrete throughout the weekend if necessary.

Casino leaders say the concrete will be re-used for oyster beds.
