Vicksburg Prepares For Two Parades

The city is preparing for two parades in its downtown area, the first marking the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday and later for Mardi Gras.
The Vicksburg Post reports (http://bit.ly/1f8CICv ) the Martin Luther King Jr. parade will be Jan. 18 at 3 p.m.
Parade applications are available at the Martin Luther King program headquarters at 1108 Farmer St., organizer Sylvester Walker says.
The parade is part of a three-day community-wide observance that will include a scholarship breakfast and an evening program honoring King's life and legacy on Jan. 20.
Vicksburg Main Street chairwoman Kristen Meehan said the 13th annual Mardi Gras parade will roll along Washington Street on March 1 at 3 p.m.
The parade is expected to include bands, marching groups, floats and motorcycle groups.
