RALEIGH, N.C. -

The Raleigh man charged with making threats against Mayor Nancy McFarlane may have had ties to anti-government and white supremacist organizations.

Alec Dane Redner, 27, was arrested Jan. 15 on charges of threatening an executive, legal or court officer, and communicating threats.

Raleigh Police spokesman Jim Sughrue said the threats did not come through the city's website or to the mayor's email address. However he did say the threats came through some sort of electronic communication.

Search warrants for Redner's home reveal he was previously arrested on May 6, 2010, when he avoided a DWI checkpoint and lead deputies on a car chase. Once apprehended, Redner was found to be in possession of an AR-15 assault-type rifle, anti-government documents and literature related to the Aryan Nation.

Redner is accused of posting threats to the mayor's website on Jan. 13.

The threats were made in the form of a comment, which said, "You make a joke about the U.S. Constitution but soon you will on the other end of barrel [expletive], watch out."

The comment came from an email address associated with the name "AntiZionist," which was then traced back to an IP address from Redner's home on Brass Kettle Road.

When officers and deputies with the Wake County Sheriff's Office attempted to contact the residents at Redner's home, Redner was observed at the residence but refused to open the door and then was seen fleeing from the home.

A Smith & Wesson 357 box, .357 casing, 27 Winchester .40 caliber rounds, Smith & Wesson magazine and four 12-gauge shotgun rounds were seized from Redner's home, although it was not immediately clear to whom the ammunition belonged. The home on Brass Kettle Road belongs  to Deborah Singer.
