Auburn University student dies after jumping from parking deck

AUBURN, Ala. - An Auburn University student has died after apparently jumping from a campus parking deck Thursday evening.

At 5:09p ct, Auburn police responded to the North Park Public Parking Deck, located at 712 West Magnolia Avenue, after 24-year-old Barrett McCoy Townsend fell from an upper level of the parking facility, according to the Auburn Police Department. Townsend was taken to the East Alabama Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.

"It appears at this time that the incident was intentional," Lee County Coroner Bill Harris says.

Police say there is no indication of foul player. Police are continuing their investigation.

The State Medical Examiner's Office in Montgomery will perform an autopsy.
