Hokies New Athletic Director Welcomed to Blacksburg

Posted: Updated:

Virginia Tech introduced the University's new Athletic Director in former Cincinnati AD Whit Babcock.  The Harrisonburg native and former JMU baseball player grew up with a longtime coach and Administrator--his father--and says he brings a special set of skills to the job. From being a former student athlete at JMU, to his father's coaching perspective, to his twenty plus years of administrative experience at four BCS level schools, Babcock says he feels prepared for the job. He called this--his dream job--to return home and lead the Hokies.  Babcock talked extensively about the importance of the "student athlete experience" and also "creating memories" for Hokies fans and supporters to build the program. He will begin full-time at his new position on February 17th. He left today's press conference in Blacksburg and flew directly to the ACC Athletic Director meetings being held in Fort Lauderdale.  Babcock replaces longtime Athletic Director Jim Weaver, who stepped down at the end of 2013 due to health issues.
