Vidant Medical holds red dress competition

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - It's more deadly than all forms of cancer combined and is the number one killer of women.

Heart disease was on everyone's mind Friday for "National Wear Red Day."

To raise awareness, Vidant Medical Center employees held an event at the East Carolina Heart Institute. They want to encourage everyone to think about their heart health and take action to live longer.

And they had a little fun doing it with a friendly red dress competition.

"I'm sure there are other men out there who just like me have important women in their lives,” said Van Smith, Vidant Senior V.P. “They want them to be healthy. They want to enjoy a long happy healthy life with them and today is a great day to encourage them to pursue that as it comes to cardiovascular health."

Vidant Medical Center is focusing on heart-healthy events for women all month long. On February 25th they'll host a heart healthy event at Rock Springs.
