A Raleigh actress is expanding her range in a powerful stage production. She has a lead role in the award winning play "Wit."
Rasool Jahan assumes the role of a college professor who finds out she has terminal cancer. The play offers dramatic insight into the importance of compassion and kindness integral between patients and medical staff.
Jahan says she prepared for the part by talking to survivors and researching as much as she could about ovarian cancer in particular. But that's not all. The actress shaved her head for the part.
Jahan's appearance in "Wit" marks a departure from the usual in this highly acclaimed production. She is among the first, if not the first black woman to assume the lead role.
The production continues in North Raleigh at the St. Francis of Assisi Community Auditorium. It runs though Feb 23.
