Kat Robichaud makes surprise appearance at Carrboro comedy festival

CARRBORO, N.C. -

Raleigh's own Kat Robichaud surprised a crowd at a comedy festival in Carrboro Friday night.

Robichaud appeared at the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival where she guest starred in an improv show. She shared a few personal stories which were turned in to comedy sketches.

Robichaud has been busy since being eliminated from NBC's hit show, "The Voice."

Robichaud started a Kickstarter campaign Feb. 3 to raise $20,000 to record and release her first post-"The Voice" album; and Kat said the idea for the campaign came from her experience on the show, which she said "is an incredible platform for helping you get your name out there."

She said the campaign, which has 17 days left, has brought in more than $30,000.

"It's been crazy and we've been shopping around for studios," Robichaud said. "I found an incredible recording studio that is state of the art, carbon neutral. It's just gorgeous."

Fans who contributed to the Kickstarter campaign are rewarded based on pledge amount. For example, a pledge of $2 will net a digital download of the completed album, while a pledge of $5,000 will score a private concert from Kat at your house. "If there's a pool, I'm throwing the patio furniture in and we're pretending we're acrobats," the Kickstarter describes.
