Snow make-up days won't affect Wake Co. spring break

CARY, N.C. -

The Wake County School Board decided to use banked days to make up for instruction time lost due to wintry weather last week.

The board heard options Tuesday afternoon on when students should make up two and a half days missed.

The school board decided those make-up days will come from banked days, a new concept part of a law passed before the start of the school year.

Wake County students will essentially not have to make up these missed days.

The decision made by the school board will leave spring break intact for Wake County students.

"Clearly there were consternation for those families who had plans," said school board member Cathy Moore. "We had teachers who had plans around spring break andwe know that if there is additional inclement weather, we may still need tolook at those days."

A third missed day, a half day that will become a full day, will be made up on March 7.

Meanwhile, the four days already scheduled to make up for lost January days remain in effect.
