Families forced out by fire soon to move back home

Posted: Updated:
Several families who were displaced by the fire at the Salem Commons Apartment Complex on Friday may soon be able to return home.

The fire displaced more than 40 people, most of which were children.

WSLS spoke with representatives from the apartment owner Habitat America who tell us that pennants living in 12 apartments will be able to return home as early as Wednesday.

Those 12 are expected to be back home no later than Monday.

Jerry Rhodes with Habitat America says that an insurance adjuster will be in town over the next week to evaluate the damage.

Rhodes says they do plan to rebuild the lost structure. He says it is too early to know when the rebuild will begin.

Rhodes says Habitat America is working with the Redcross to ensure that everyone displaced has shelter and clothing. He says that some have looked at other apartments to live in, while others will be moved into vacant apartments at Salem Commons.
