Natalie Nicole Newton Jones is home after receiving five plasma exchanges
"It was more serious than I probably realized," admits Nicole.
After giving birth to her second child, she was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder, called TTP.
It caused her platelet levels to drastically decrease.
"Anywhere from 150-thousand to 300-thousand is considered normal.
I was at 10-thousand," recalls Nicole.
She spent a week-and-a-half in the hospital and needed five plasma exchanges.
"That’s a lot of people that had to give for me," Nicole tells News Channel 12.
According to Mississippi Blood Services, each treatment required about 17 people's plasma.
But, Nicole could only accept men with blood types AB-positive or AB-negative.
"The mortality rate is at 80-percent, unless you get the plasma exchanges," explains her husband, Clay Jones.
Nicole is happy to be at home, spending time with her family, and cherishing every day like it was her last.
"I can't say thank you enough.
I will forever be grateful that I got all the treatments hopefully that I needed," adds Nicole.
Doctors have told Nicole to not get pregnant again since that is what induces TTP.
She has an appointment tomorrow with her hematologist to determine if she needs more plasma treatments.
