COLUMBUS, Ga. -
Columbus police are searching for a man they're calling a dangerous rape suspect. Lieutenant Warren Dunlap with the Special Victim's Unit says they are looking for a black male between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall. The man is between 20 and 35 years old. He is described as having a a slender build, light complexion, clean-shaven, low haircut, well-spoken, low facial hair, and wears one diamond earring in each ear.
Lt. Dunlap says the suspect is behind 2 sexual assaults that happened in Columbus between February 25 and March 3. Police say the man knocks on the door of a residence belonging to an elderly person. After gaining the confidence of the victim, he sexually assaults them. He appears to be targeting victims between the age of 60 and 80 years old. Police are warning residents to be careful and alert.
"Don't allow strangers inside your home. Don't open your door. If you feel that something's not right, don't hesitate to call 911," said Dunlap.
The suspect was seen driving a newer model Dodge Charger that is either gray or silver in color. It has a spoiler on the rear of the vehicle. Lt. Dunlap says Phenix City, Russell County, and Lee County have reported similar incidents that could possibly be connected to the assaults here in Columbus.
